Insurance

Havnar Arbeiðarafelag has an agreement with Betri regarding life insurance for its members.

The insurance is mandatory for all members under the age of 67 who are connected to the labour market or receive support from the ALS. Other members can approach the union to participate in the collective insurance scheme.

When does the insurance take effect?

Members who are required to participate in the collective insurance scheme are covered immediately upon joining the union.

When does the insurance expire?

The insurance coverage ceases immediately when you are no longer a union member or when the conditions for mandatory participation in the scheme are no longer met.

If the conditions for mandatory participation are no longer met, members can continue in the scheme. The membership will then continue directly from the point when the member is no longer required to participate. The condition is that insurance premiums and membership fees are paid to the union, that the member is a resident of the Faroe Islands, and that the member is not employed under the agreement area of another trade union.

If a member reports being unable to work due to illness, the union may request that the member provide a medical certificate.

Sudden illnesses among members include:

• Cancer, leukaemia, and lymphoma

• Benign tumours in the brain or spinal cord

Insurance Agreement

The insurance agreement is made between Tórshavn Workers Union and Betri Pension. The agreement is valid for all members of the Tórshavn Workers Union.

Participation in the group insurance requires that the member is at least 15 years old and has not yet reached the age of 67.

Sudden Illness Insurance

If a member experiences one of the specified sudden illnesses listed in the insurance terms, they will receive a one-time payment of 125,000 DKK. The covered sudden illnesses are also listed on the backside of this brochure. The sudden illness must be confirmed before the member reaches 67 years old.

If the member experiences the same emergency again or a directly related emergency to a previously confirmed one, it does not entitle them to a new payment. If the insured member experiences a different emergency than the one previously confirmed, they have the right to an additional payment of 125,000 DKK.

Possible payments will not be set off in the supply in case of death.

Emergency Insurance also covers the children of the insured member. The insurance coverage amount is 125,000 DKK. Children up to the age of 18 are covered.

If a child experiences one of the specified emergencies listed in the insurance terms, a one-time payment of 125,000 DKK will be provided. This also applies to adopted children and foster children, provided they are registered as living at the same residence as the member. After one payment, the respective child is no longer covered by the Emergency Insurance.

Final Payment

The final payment is made when the member reaches the age of 67. The payment amount is 100,000 DKK.

The right to receive the final payment is contingent upon the member having paid into the collective life insurance scheme and membership dues for at least 10 continuous years until age 67.

The group insurance includes the following coverage:

• Life insurance until the end of the year in which you turn 67: 500,000 DKK

Life Insurance

Provides those surviving with a sum amount in the event of an insured member's death before the end of the year they turn 67. The insurance payment will be made to the next of kin unless otherwise agreed upon. The term "next of kin" initially refers to the spouse. If there is no spouse, the payment will be made to the cohabiting partner, followed by the children. If there are no living descendants, the payment will be made according to the terms of the will. If there is no will, the payment will be made according to inheritance laws.

If there is a desire for someone other than those mentioned above to receive the insurance payment, a declaration form must be completed and submitted to Tórshavn Workers Union (see www.haf.fo) or Betri Pension (see www.betri.fo).
